Sandy's Journey
Crossing Over

We started around 4:30 Friday afternoon.  I had been told to wash my hair the night before, condition it, rinse rinse rinse, and then put nothing else on it.  I let it air dry, and I didn't comb or brush it, so as to keep it as kinky as possible.  I did use an herbal rinse that made it nice and soft and easy for Sheila to comb through, though. It was very soft, but it also seemed very dry. It really needed some kind of moisturizer (or so I thought).  I was hoping she'd put something on it tonight.  I just couldn't see me living without putting any kind of moisturizer in this dry stuff.  My hair looked like an afro.  Fuzzy/curly.  I didn't know that permed hair curled up like this when it dries naturally.  I put a couple of combs in the sides to hold it down at work.  Look at that picture!  I looked like Scarey Woman. :-)

Now I know why people come from all over to take braiding classes here. Everette's gets the job done!  My hair was separated into sections, and Sheila started on the back while Pam started on the side.  They worked for a few hours -- until we all got tired from a long work week.  They braided the part that hadn't yet been locked, and sent me on my way, to start again the next day and pick up where we left off.
